GETAWAY (SAFELY)

November 18, 2020

It’s 2020 and we are in a pandemic. It feels wrong to say I’m writing this from an airplane, but here we are. I’m on a flight back to Nashville as I write this. Somewhere over Colorado, I think. Since March, the most I’ve really […]

It's probably our only chance to catch the Time Jumpers for a long time, so I snagged us tickets for a date night. Tomorrow I start physical therapy and Wednesday I meet with radiology. But tonight... Tonight I will enjoy an evening of music with my man. My heart is heavy with today's events here in Nashville, but I need tonight. ❤️

Friday morning and husband is back home off the ro Friday morning and husband is back home off the road -- in from Houston! He's been off the road since November, and the first run of the year just hits different.

I got up for the day when he walked through the door after driving all night, eager to catch up. We talk every day, but it's just different catching up in person. We've been talking and swapping songs on the speaker over coffee (for me) and a shift drink (for him) for a couple hours. And I'm in zero hurry for that to end.

International Women's Day 2023 💜 Did you know t International Women's Day 2023 💜 Did you know that IWD has been observed since the early 1900s? Yes! In 1911, International Women's Day was honored for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. It was in 1913 that March 8th was designated IWD, a date its held ever since.

This years theme for IWD is #EmbraceEquity.

What is equity? From the IWD website: "Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome." It takes equality to the next level.

“Equality is leaving the door open for anyone who has the means to approach it; equity is ensuring there is a pathway to that door for those who need it.” –Caroline Belden (Writer, ‘The Inclusion Solution’)

This International Women's Day we must ask ourselves... how can we go the extra mile to ensure all have what each individual needs to be truly successful.

This is the first time I've felt compelled to try my hand at a #CanvaDesignChallenge.

This is the face of a woman who met with her surge This is the face of a woman who met with her surgeon today and confirmed her pathology results. No active cancer cells found in my lymph nodes nor in the tissue removed in my lumpectomy. A complete response to chemo. 🙌🏼

The amount of thanks I feel in my heart and soul is overwhelming. I am so peaceful and joyful right now... But mostly I'm just so, so, so thankful. 💗

It's been a full week (yesterday) since my #breast It's been a full week (yesterday) since my #breastcancer surgery. I am starting to finally feel a little more like me. My range of motion in my left arm is better, and I'm no longer taking any sort of pain meds all day. I am still sore, but it's completely manageable.

I haven't gotten any pathology results yet, and trying not to stress about that is A THING... especially since I've really not left my house much in days. Too many opportunities to be in my own head.

Got out today to have my port flushed at my oncologist's office -- treatment doesn't start back up for a couple more weeks while I continue to heal. Normally, pre-bc days, on an afternoon like this my husband and I would go grab a beer. But since I'm trying to dramatically lower my alcohol consumption (and will definitely be partaking tomorrow), we opted for coffee. I guess you could say I have a thing for "brews."

Don't let this smile fool you. This girl is groggy Don't let this smile fool you. This girl is groggy, nauseated and terrible at asking for help. But she also just got through surgery to remove cancer and biopsy lymph nodes. Now we wait for pathology to do their thing.

Today wasn't a walk in the park by a long shot. I almost passed out... twice... before going to surgery. I'm going to be sore for awhile, and I've been ordered not to lift anything over 3 lbs. Y'all say a prayer for my husband that I don't drive him crazy the next couple of weeks.

Thank you to everyone for their continued prayers, love and support. This journey still has a long way to go, but we knocked off a huge step today. ❤️

I recently shared on Facebook a metaphor about fig I recently shared on Facebook a metaphor about fighting cancer that featured a lion, a bear and a mountain. It didn't hit me for a few days that our trip to the mountains to celebrate my finishing chemo was extra poetic because of that metaphor. As I climb the mountain towards being declared free of cancer, it's good to take moments like these to stop and breathe. To reflect on this journey in moments of peace.

When my oncologist told me I'd have six rounds of When my oncologist told me I'd have six rounds of chemotherapy, my brain went, "Pfft ... That's going to fly by!" Today, I'm sitting here in this chair hooked up for the sixth and final round of chemo... And let me tell you, it did not fly quite like I thought it would.

It's been four months of a rollercoaster ride. Feeling great, then feeling like I've been hit by a truck, then feeling better, then that truck comes back for another hit. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I still have a long road ahead of me, but to have THIS part behind me? It feels like I've already won.

Thank you so, so much to everyone who have prayed for me and cheered me on in this fight. 💗 I could never list everyone individually, and I know the prayers and support will keep going as I keep fighting. I am humbled by everyone's love. More importantly I am deeply thankful.

Please keep those prayers going... I am still facing surgery, radiation and continued immunotherapy. Those prayers got me through this phase. They'll carry me through the rest. ✝️
